Here's an update on our...

...new home construction. The basement will be set in on November 5th. Then the we'll be set to go. Home should be finished within 6 months. The water well was drilled today, October 13th. The lot was cleared a few weeks ago. We have already set up a shed out there to hold some of the tools I need while out there working, 4 wheeler to get around, trailer to haul stuff around. Wood cutting tools, brush hog, etc. Heere's a couple of pictures:

This young lady was one of my favorites at Christmastime. Her mom wanted pictures of her for the Christmas card.

Went to Pittsburgh in Feburary and shot this from West End Overlook. This image has been "painted" in one of my favorite digital imaging programs. Pittsburgh is my hometown, well actually McKees Rocks is. Love to photograph in and around Pittsburgh.

Congratulations to Sarah for being validictorian of her class of 2008. Took her senior picture last Fall. She goes to KHS.

This couple stopped at the local hangout bar of theirs on the way to the reception. They were the most fun couple from last year. Great families know how to enjoy themselves.

This is our all time favorite couple. Hats off to JJ for his service in the military. Two tours of Iraq. They married quietly before he shipped off the first time and waited till he was finished to do the formalities. Loved them. A very special couple. Did I tell you how special they were?

I recently Discovered...

... Geocaching. Its's a cool hobby, sport involving the use of GPS technology and a combination of hiking, orienteering, and common sense to locate hidden "treasures" around the world. Here's the definition right from the web site devoted to geocaching. "Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache." You can find all the information you need at Geocaching.com.

I found my first cache without the use of a handheld GPS unit. I was able to find it using the one in the car. I soon found that I needed a handheld in order to get to most of them. I bought one last week. My first two attempts with it failed. The first one lead me into terrain that was a little rough and I wasn't dressed for it. The second one caught me short on time, and I just don't think I was looking hard enough. I am going back to that one soon.

...old slides the other day and came a cross this one. It is of the point in downtown Pittsburgh taken from West End Overlook. Try to guess the year of this photograph. It should not be too hard. There is a very definite clue. I was thinking that I took this picture, but realized that I did not. Upon inspection of the markings on the slide frame, it was my brother Ed who took it using Kodachrome film.

He took this photo with an Ansco Super Memar 35mmm rangefinder camera. This was an all manual camera with no light meter. The light meter was separate and was placed on the flash shoe on top of the camera. You can find lots of information on this camera by an internet search.

Ed later gave me this camera which I still have today. I learned all my beginning lessons about exposure with this camera. I probably took my first wedding pictures with it at family weddings. It is a great little camera.

The Road to Nowhere...

...actually leads to our new property and the site of our future home. We had to have a road built to get into our property. We purchased this property in Clarion County, PA last October. We hope to be building by early next spring. We have a few projects to complete before we can start construction.

I took this Panorama of New Bethlehem...

...in April. When I was in business before I had a view similar to this that I sold many copies of to New Bethlehem residents. Recently I had a request so I created this one. It is actually three images stitched together and then an artistic painting look was added. It has been popular to anyone I have showed it too and has had many "hits" on my web site. Lots of folks from around here like to give it as a gift to their friends and relatives who have moved away. Enjoy.

I Was Up In the Local Bank Tower...

...a couple of weeks ago on my way to the top to take some photos of the town for the local revitalization effort. I had been there years ago to do the same thing and forgotten the clock. Well here it is. I love this picture. I could not resist "painting it" It just takes on a whole new character when painted. I am not sure how old it is, but it sure looks like a relic. I'll have to do some research.

First Post

This is my first post ever to a blog. So, here goes.... As it says over there on the right, I was an elementary principal, and now I am a photographer. Today I returned to the high school in the system I worked in to photograph the senior class for the graduation class photo. I had participated in many graduations over the years, sitting on stage and greeting each of the graduates as they enter the real world and realizing that I had had a great deal of responsibility in bringing them to this point

Today as I watched them practice graduation, the seniors call it marching, I had those same feelings as I did in 2004 when I participated in my last graduation ceremony at RVHS. Every year at this time when I would see them dressed in their caps and gowns, I would get a little choked up.

I am so proud to be able to say I was their principal when they were in elementary school.
